Tariff Increases Explained

NOTES ON TARIFFS - UPDATED ON 3rd October 2023

Tariffs and fees are subject to adjustment dependent upon market conditions, rise of gas charges and CPI Increases.
Smart Energy regularly reviews and renegotiates its gas supply agreements to minimise and mitigate the impact of increases to gas prices, that are occurring within the market and within commercial supply agreements, that may be passed on to our customers.
Whilst we try and maintain costs within the parameters required to avoid increases to our tariffs and fees, our gas supply costs can vary regularly and in some instances may require increases to be passed on to our customers in our tariffs and fees.

3RD QTR 2023 changes to pricing.

Due to recent rising costs in both the gas energy market and to CPI, for a number of our customer sites, there will be an increase to our tariffs and fees that will be applied to take effect this coming September quarter billing period. We advise that for further information on your site or building, that our updated site-specific price schedules will be made available prior to the quarterly reads to all customers on their scheduled read dates. For the majority of our customers there will be a 6.3% CPI increase or a 9.9% increase in some locations but not both.
Please contact our office on 1300 303 486 with enquiries on obtaining updated price schedules for your building.

Where we have had to increase our hot water usage rates, it is worth noting that our increases are significantly less to our customers than increases that are occurring for commercial and domestic gas customers often less than half that of the increases that are occurring in gas pricing. This has been in part due to Smart Energy Systems negotiating bulk prices on behalf of its customers to lessen the full impact of general gas price increases.

As is standard with our company, if customers are having difficulty in paying their invoices by the due date, we are happy to negotiate a payment plan to help to ensure the continuity of our service to you.

Application Establishment Charge

Charge is $40.00 (excl GST). It is designed to cover the costs of a technician going on site and reading the meter, the cost of setting up a new account, postage, administration costs, etc.
It is a standard fee and is applicable to every new resident of a serviced hot water apartment building.
Account establishment or setup fees exist for most service providers.

Cooker Fee

If applicable fee is per month for natural gas, or per month for LPG.
This fee covers the provision of providing gas to your cooktop and is a set monthly fee with unlimited use.

Estimated Invoice

If your meter is located inside your apartment, we will try to contact you to read you meter, or fit a remote reading device. If we are unable to gain access to your apartment, you will be issued a bill based on an estimate read. The estimate will be based on your previous hot water usage.

When we are able to accurately read your meter, we will be able to adjust your account to ensure you only pay for the hot water you use.

Disconnection Notice

You will be sent a disconnection notice if you have not paid your bill, and have not contacted us, by the reissue date specified on your overdue notice.

This notice will specify the date in which your hot water will be disconnected. You should contact us immediately if you believe you have paid this bill, or are having trouble paying this bill, or you think this bill does not apply to you.

The hot water will be turned off if you fail to act.

A disconnection fee of $40.00 will apply.

Hot Water Supply Charge

A charge made as service provider 'SES' for the purposes of maintaining the hot water reticulated supply and the gas energy consumed to keep this supply in a ready state.

Invoice

Meters are read for each building and the invoices are then generated from those readings.

If you move into an apartment between meter reads, you will receive your first hot water bill on the next meter read.

Invoices are due within 14 days of being sent and the due date will be marked on your invoice.

Measuring Hot Water

We use hot water meters to measure hot water consumption. Each meter is tested by the Brisbane Water Board before installation.

Meters are attached to the hot water pipes entering each apartment, therefore giving accurate individual readings for each unit.

You only pay for the hot water you use.

Meter Test

Charge is $40.00 (excl GST).

We will test your hot water meter at your request. If the meter is indeed found to be not working properly, we will replace the meter at our cost.

If the meter is found to be functioning properly, you will be required to pay the fee.

The deposit is held as a bond and this is credited against the tenants final account with Smart Energy.
